The Musician

Sydney soprano Susannah Lawergren has developed a reputation for her versatility, “stunning vocal expression”, “beautifully clear soprano” and "compelling stagecraft". She holds an Advanced Diploma of Opera from the Sydney Conservatorium and has sung with some of the foremost ensembles, composers and festivals in Australia. She is a principal artist with The Song Company and Bach Akademie Australia.


Susannah’s repertoire varies widely, recently singing Elena Kats-Chernin’s Wild Swans while flying harnessed through the air above Willoughby Orchestra with astonishing aerialists Legs on the Wall, art songs with harpist Emily Granger at the inaugural Oberon Festival, a new commission by Ross Edwards written for Susannah and Bernadette Harvey for the 150th Anniversary of the Art Gallery of NSW and a series of solo Bach cantatas for Baroquefest Canowindra with BAA. She has worked with many emerging and established composers, including new compositions, recordings and performances with both Ross Edwards and Elena Kats-Chernin. Highlights in 2024 include singing with Opera Australia in the semi-chorus of Brett Dean’s Hamlet, the Song Company's 40th Anniversary Season, soloist in the premiere of Ross Edwards’s Vespers for Mother Earth and with Willoughby Symphony Choir and Orchestra for Haydn's Creation and Jenkins' The Armed Man, and singing an operatic recital in Australia House in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
