Gabriel Fromyhr is an emerging Cellist and Viola da Gamba from Canberra/Yass, currently in his 3rd year of study at the ANU School of Music. He is a student of David Pereira but also studies with Csaba Szilvay and Danny Yeadon on occasion. He has appeared with the Queensland Baroque Orchestra in 2019, participated in the Australian Haydn Ensemble’s Academy program in 2022, and will play with the Canberra Bach Ensemble in 2023.
Gabriel plays in the ANU Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra as a Principal/Associate Principal. Along with an interest in Historical performance and period instruments, Gabriel has also premiered and performed modern works by composers such as Elena Kats Chernin, Leanne Bear, and Troye Russell. In July 2023, Gabriel played as a soloist with Musica Da Camera, playing Marian Budos’s ‘Seven Gifts’.
