Vaishnavi Muddam fell in love with the Veena at age ten and has since been committed to bringing this ancient Indian instrument to new audiences worldwide. Now an emerging Carnatic artist based in Australia, she regularly performs solo recitals and at festivals such as the Melbourne Trinity Heritage Festival and the Melbourne Margazhi Mahotsavam. Vaishnavi was the first Australian National University (ANU) student to integrate Veena performance and research into her studies. Her original intercultural works blending Veena and Japanese Shakuhachi have featured at the Croatian Embassy and the ANU School of Music. She trains under Smt. Shobha Sekhar OAM and holds high distinctions from the Madras Music Academy.
Equally at home in Western classical music, Vaishnavi holds an AMusA in flute and has performed as flautist and piccoloist with the ANU Orchestra and chamber ensembles. She has studied with Dr Sally Walker, supported by the Leonard and Margaret Domam Scholarship, and Kazuko Ihara in Tokyo, supported by the Westpac Asian Exchange Scholarship and an ANU Friends of the School of Music Grant. Alongside her music, she is completing an Honours in experimental nuclear physics at the ANU, continuing to bridge the worlds of performance, collaboration, and investigation of the frontiers of science.
