Simon Rickard is a specialist in historical bassoons, renaissance reed instruments and baroque musette. After completing his BMus at the Canberra School of Music, he undertook postgraduate study at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in the Hague. During his time in Europe, Simon also studied and performed baroque dance.

Simon has toured and recorded with countless period instrument ensembles including Les Arts Florissants, the Gabrieli Consort, Pinchgut Opera, the Orchestra of the Antipodes, the Australian Haydn Ensemble, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Latitude 37, as well as playing in his own renaissance woodwind consort, Unholy Rackett.

Notwithstanding, baroque musicians living in Australia all need a day job: Simon’s is as a gardener.
